The 1927-D Double Eagle is known for its rarity. The coin fetched $1,292,500 at The Bentley Collection auction in San Francisco. The coin is the rarest regular issue of the 20th century as well as the rarest coin minted at Denver Mint. Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the coin weighs about 33.4 grams and measures 34 mm in diameter. The coin bears a distinct lettered edge and contains 90% gold and 10% copper.Latest News
